Fellowship Overview

The Tech Fellow will work with Tennessee Alliance for Legal Services’ (TALS) staff on improvements to the HELP4TN.org website and service delivery model, as funded by a 2017 TIG award. Overall goals of the project will contribute to those of the TIG award. This includes developing the Legal Chatbot, facilitating a national rollout of the finalized Legal Chatbot, and enhancing user experience, accessibility, and overall use of HELP4TN.org. The Fellow will work closely with TALS Equal Justice Works Fellow and Director of Technology, Training, and Compliance to complete the goals of the TIG program. The Fellow will assist in developing Legal Chatbot for HELP4TN.org and enhance the content and usability of HELP4TN.org. The Fellow will support TALS staff in meeting these goals, as well as participate in the Technology Task Force and technology related training for the Tennessee Equal Justice University conference to support work on the TIG program. The Fellow will also have the opportunity to learn about TALS other programs and participate in TALS staff meetings and trainings.

Fellows Duties

  • Test chatbot services and integration, focusing on quality of legal information;
  • Provide feedback for chatbot developers based on testing and use;
  • Develop and edit content for HELP4TN.org to improve user experience, accessibility, and overall use of the site;
  • Conduct legal research on various topics addressed by site upgrades;
  • Participate in TALS Technology Task Force and Technology tack for Tennessee' s Equal Justice conference to communicate and coordinate with stakeholders across the state;
  • Support statewide and national outreach efforts for enhanced HELP4TN site;
  • Other duties related to the TIG program as assigned by the Supervising Attorney and Project Manager/TALS Director of Training, Compliance & Technology.

  • Experience with using technology including document assembly, websites and video conferencing, preferred;

  • Ability and willingness to learn to use new technology platforms and dashboards, required.
