New Mexico Legal Aid Inc.
Location: Albuquerque, NM
About: New Mexico Legal Aid (NMLA) provides high quality advocacy and legal representation to eligible and low income individuals and families to help them help themselves towards safer, more stable and healthier futures.
NMLA seeks a full-time, 10-week fellow to be part of the team responsible creating an interactive, browser-based substantive practice guidance to (1) help junior advocates provide quality legal assistance more efficiently and (2) reduce the need for on-going, in-person training and supervision by expert advocates. The implementation will include pilot systems to guide advocates handling major practice areas like family law, housing, consumer law, and public benefits.
The Fellow will work closely with the project's technology vendor and with NMLA's substantive law expert attorneys to develop on-line interactive practice guides for major subject areas including family law, housing law, consumer law and government benefits programs. The Fellow also will help develop an automated data tracking system to measure the effectiveness of how the guides are used. The Fellow also will help develop an intuitive Expert Content Management System designed for expert advocates who have limited familiarity with web applications and no programming experience to be able to edit and supplement the content of each Guide. These activities, by making the system as user friendly and easily navigable as possible, will ensure maximum use and positive impact on NMLA's capacity to successfully serve more clients.
