Montana Legal Services Association (MLSA) is a law firm that empowers low-income people by providing legal information, advice, and other services free of charge. MLSA works both on individual cases and under a systemic approach to help low-income people escape domestic violence, keep their housing, preserve their public benefits, protect their finances, and more.
Montana Legal Services Association seeks a full-time, 10-week fellow to be part of the team responsible for development of MontanaLawHelp.org and the LawHelp platform. This project will (1) review and overhaul MontanaLawHelp.org content for plain language readability; (2) create new style guides to ensure best practices for future content on MontanaLawHelp.org; (3) apply leading search engine optimization techniques for enhanced visibility of MontanaLawHelp.org; (4) develop LawHelp.org tools for sharing content among all 28 state network sites, including model resource templates; and (5) modify the LawHelp.org search engine, making it more intuitive to use and more forgiving of visitor mistakes. The improvements will enhance the quality of user experience by making content easier to read, making the website easier to find, and making content easier to find within the site.
The Fellow will assist MLSA in identifying content plain language, accessibility, and SEO needs for MontanaLawHelp.org, and would assist in revising website content for readability. The Fellow will also work with MLSA staff to conduct internal testing of the content sharing tool and search engine modifications. Finally, the Fellow will assist in the creation of a style guide to ensure that best practices for plain language are followed for future development of new content and revision of existing content. The Fellow will help achieve the objectives of the project by helping MLSA implement plain language and readability standards consistently across all MontanaLawHelp resources.
